Secretary’s Report:

The minutes from the June 4, 2009 meeting were read by Mike Boudreau and were accepted.  Minutes have been posted on the Wakefield Youth Soccer web site.

Treasurer’s Report

      This report is for the month of June 2009.

 

      Beginning balances for the month were $43,302 in the checking account, $50,096 in the term deposit and $106,355 in the field account, for a total cash balance of $199,753.

 

            There were $2,055 in receipts for the month consisting of Fall registrations. We recognized interest of $135 to the field/Money Market account, $1 to the operating account.

 

      Expenses for the month were $6,503 consisting of $264 for postage (Travel letters) $30 reimbursed to Tom for tryout supplies, $250 to Dick Ellis re: MTOC stipend, $35 reimbursed to Matt Angelo for passing the G course, $4305 for the Town of Wakefield recreation field fees, $900 for rent to the Civic Center, $510 for referee expenses (associate ref fees-Spring), and $209 for registration refunds.

 

      Ending balances are $38,855 in the checking account, $50,096 in the term deposit and $106,490 in the field money market account (May reconciled), for a total cash balance of $195,441.

 Equipment Manager’s Report:

                  

1.     Please contact Mike Boudreau to arrange for any equipment turn-ins

2.     Need to have any outstanding field liners collected

3.     New travel uniforms will be in before August 15th

Quiet right now – will be revamping the website over the Summer

Travel Team Coordinator’s Report:

                       

I.                    Post Season Play

• Congratulations to the following teams:
• BU10 – 3 team for reaching the Commissioner’s Cup
• GU18 for their appearance in the Mass Tournament of Champions.  This team came in 1^st place in their group.  Unfortunately they lost to Northboro in the quarter finals.

 

II.                 Welcome new coaches

Travel Teams Process

• This includes coaching assignments, tryout process and team picking
• There has been challenges along each one of these processes
• Some of the behavior during these processes has been very disturbing, even shocking and one could even argue that some of the behavior was in violation of the Zero Tolerance Policy
• We have and will continue to address these behaviors with the individuals involved
• As a result of these behaviors we will be developing tools which will hopefully address the challenges and make the process smoother next year

• The rosters for the 2009-2010 Boys Travel teams are in Sports Manager
• The rosters for the 2009-2010 Girls Travel teams are being entered and should be completed by Friday evening.
• Coaches please e-mail Tom Guerriero your assistant coaches name(s) and their contact information by Friday afternoon so that we can make sure that they will be on the rosters.

Characteristics of an Ideal Soccer Club

• The original document can be found under the coach resource library tab on the Mass Youth Soccer website

• It lists “some proven characteristics which can lead to the development of a very successful club”
• Some of the points which stand out are: (listed in descending priority order)

1)      Progressive Player Development Curriculum

2)      Continuous coach development program

3)      A clearly identified development plan with player development as the primary goal above winning.  Winning is a by-product of quality development

4)      Minimum licensing standards  for all coaches

5)      Parent  Evaluation forms

6)      Regular goalkeeping training

7)      Within club coaching evaluation

8)      Game evaluations

 

• All coaches are encouraged to read this document
• This document should be the “road map”  that our association is going to follow so that we can offer our players the best soccer experience we can

 

 

Player/Coach development program

• The State coaches work with our organization throughout the season.
• Two options are available: Option 1 (work with several teams at the same time) or Option 2 (work with one team at the time).  Tom likes option 1 the best.
• The State coach will arrive with a syllabus of the day.  They will meet with all age group coaches before practice to go over the syllabus. The team coaches then run their own practice with their team and our staff provides assistance by floating from one team to another during the session.
• Two hour minimum requirement
• At this time the state has Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays available
• Example:
• Two Mass Youth Coaches ($65/coach/hour)
• Two 1.5 hours sessions for a total of 3 hours (i.e. 5-6:30 and 6:30-8)
• Monday:
• Coach 1: 1.5 hours – U10 boys x 2 teams, 1.5 hours – U10 boys x 2 teams
• Coach 2: 1.5 hours – U10 girls x 2 teams, 1.5 hours – U10 girls x 2 team

 

• Cost for evening: $195.00

 

• Wednesday:
• Coach 1: 1.5 hours – U12 boys x 2 teams, 1.5 hours – U12 boys x 2 teams
• Coach 2: 1.5 hours – U12 girls x 2 teams, 1.5 hours – U12 girls x 2 team

 

• Cost for evening: $195.00

 

• Total program cost: $ 3900.00 for the fall season

 

• We would like to see as many teams as possible participate.
• Coaches can e-mail Tom the times that they would like, however the final day(s) will depend  on field availability which will be discussed by the Board after this meeting.

 

 

 

League Report

          No report this month – league meeting later this week

         

    

General Information:

1.      Kindergarten & Grade 1 programs to start on September 12^th and run for 9 weeks through November 14^th (excluding Columbus Day weekend).  Start date will sync up with other intramural programs.

2.   G License course to be held on September 10^th in the Galvin Middle School gym

3.   Advanced training – Tom Guerriero presented Coach/Player development proposal – based on discussion will present further update at next WSA meeting

4.   Dolbeare Field Update – Playground construction completed on June 13^th with tremendous community support. Opening day for playground took place on June 18^th.  Jim Fitzgerald, Chris Barrett and Mike Boudreau to meet with Dennis Fazio the week of July 6^th to plan out renovations and time schedule.

5.   Field Usage – in process of solidifying – will present at next WSA meeting.
