Mid-Season Update

Posted In: General WSA News

As we enter the second half of the season, we have some updates to share about the program this year and next.

Mask update:  As you know, we’ve been following Mass Youth Soccer’s guidance as relates to Covid precautions.  As of yesterdayMass Youth Soccer has updated its policy on masks for spectators.  Spectators may remove their masks once they reach their settle in their destination to watch games, provided they maintain six feet of distance from the next family unit.  They must still wear their mask while entering and leaving the facility or when social distancing is not possible.  We’ll be following these latest guidelines at our facilities, but with that said, please respect any guidelines that are in place for towns you may visit for away games.

Note: Players must continue to wear their masks during play and on the bench when they are not able to be 6 feet away from others.

Travel Evaluations for next season:  We will be running evaluations for next season’s travel placements for players entering grades 3 through 8 (G4, G6, and G8 age groups).  Boys evaluations will take place on May 25 and June 10.  Girls evaluations will take place on May 27 and June 8.  Specific times and locations will be shared soon, along with a link to register for next season.  Stay tuned, and in the meantime, save those dates!

Postseason:  Essex will be moving forward with a postseason tournament.  Teams that finish in the top 2 places in their division will qualify.  Games will be played during the week of June 13-20.  G4 teams will have the opportunity to participate in a jamboree if they wish which will take place on June 12.  More details to come.

Lastly, thank you all for your compliance with guidelines and support for your kids this season…thankfully it has been uneventful for the most part in terms of issues related to Covid.  It has also been relatively uneventful in terms of issues with spectators/coaches/referees etc.  As we enter the last few weeks of the season, games become more competitive, and the temperature rises both literally and figuratively; please continue to do your part to keep things calm and cool.

Spring 2021 Travel Registration is open!

Posted In: General WSA News, Registration News, Travel News

Hello,

This spring MYSA and Essex County Youth Soccer Association is planning on having a travel season.  At this time WSA is opening up travel registration for returning fall players in grades 3-8 as well as players in grades 9-PG.

If our governing bodies (including the governor’s office) deem travel soccer to be too great a risk WSA will explore alternative options for play.  This may include returning to the in town model we instituted in the fall.  We are optimistic that we will have some form of ECYSA play with Covid-19 safety precautions still in place.

For updated information regarding the stages of play and guidelines from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts please visit:

mayouthsoccer.org/returntosocceractivitiespdf/

Wakefield Soccer is working with MYSA, ECYSA, local and state officials to ensure we are in compliance with all safety protocols. For any questions/concerns you may have about safety precautions around Covid-19 you can reach out to us at: [email protected].

For more information on the travel season please visit https://www.wakefieldsoccer.org/programs/travel/Spring-2021/

Volunteer to coach:

If you are interested in coaching this year please indicate so when registering and fill out the form at https://www.wakefieldsoccer.org/coaches/volunteer-to-coach/.  We need additional coaches this season at all levels.

Uniforms:

WSA uses a 2 year uniform rotation to minimize the cost incurred by our membership.  We are currently in the 2nd year of the 2-year cycle.  For players that did not purchase a uniform in the fall/last spring (grades 3 and 9-12) we are still looking into uniform requirements as set by ECYSA.

For returning players who are looking to replace damaged or missing uniforms for all other grades if you wish to order a uniform regardless of the ECYSA requirements you can visit https://www.wakefieldsoccer.org/programs/travel/travel-uniforms/ for more information.  Please contact your coach to confirm the number.

Intramurals/Academy:

Registration for grades Pre-K through 2nd grade will be opening at a later date.

To register for the spring season please go to:

https://www.wakefieldsoccer.org/registration/register-now/

We look forward to seeing you all in the spring.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thank you,
Thomas Callahan
