Club Soccer Age Groups

Club soccer programs follow US Soccer’s birth year mandate, and field teams grouped by single birth year (rather than grade or other grouping).  NOTE: United is holding tryouts in two-year groups simply because of limited field space and time.

For example, if your child was born in 2007 they could join a team of other players born in ’07 (regardless of grade, or what team they may be eligible for in town travel soccer.)

Depending on the number of teams Wakefield United can form, we may ask some players to play with an older age group. For example, 2006 players could “play up” with the 2005 birth year if necessary. Of course, older children cannot “play down” with younger ones.

More information about how NSL (the club league that United plays in) handles the birth year designations can be found here. However, the simplest way to think about it is to assume teams will be formed from players all born in a single birth year.  NOTE: They are trying out in two-year groups simply because of limited field space and time.
