Tots / Pre-K / Kindergarten Training

Week 1

Week 2

Add these two foundation technique exercises to the three from last week.

Week 3

  • Laces Dribbling Techniquehttps://youtu.be/LRW3UpQrgPQ
Using laces dribbling technique, dribble around using only your laces.

  • Challenge 1: Only use your right foot
  • Challenge 2: Only use your left foot
  • Challenge 3: How many laces touches can you get in 20 seconds?

  • Figure 8 Dribbling: https://youtu.be/_gOORygHlLE
To get more laces touches over space spread the cones out further. To get more quick laces touches move the clones closer together.  Try completing figure 8s by only using your right foot or by only using your left foot.

  • Challenge 1: How fast can you complete 4 consecutive figure 8s while using both feet? Right foot only? Left foot only?
Revisit weeks 1 and 2 above to continue developing familiarity with the ball at your feet and getting plenty of touches on the ball.

Week 4

  • Pullback move: https://youtu.be/0pVKHoI36dU
This video also contains an inside cut and an outside cut, but I recommend working on the pull back first.  To work on these moves you can lay out 2-3 cones in a small space(5x5yds) and every time you get to a cone you perform a pullback. Pro Tip: You can also work on the move by dribbling back and forth between two cones.  When dribbling between cones we want to keep control of the ball by keeping it close with little touches.
  • Simon Says Soccer Game
Simon Says is a great game you can use to help work on various soccer skills.  Use our skills listed above(toe taps, tick tocks, etc.) as commands for Simon Says.

Week 5

Games! All these games can be done with or without a ball.  If you are using a ball we have all the skills listed in previous weeks that you can use in these games.  If you are not using a ball you can use skips, one foot hops, two foot hops, gallops, and backwards run.

  • Red Light, Green Light
This is a great game that players can use with or without a soccer ball.  Feel free to add more colors to keep the game interesting. i.e.: red light-stop, green light=go, yellow light= slow, blue light= toe taps, orange light= tick tocks, purple light=knee on the ball.  You can make up anything you want, but this can be a great game to get some touches on the ball.
  • Tag
Tag is another great game with or without the ball that works on changing direction and watching where we are going.
  • Simon Says
    Described in last weeks update
  • Follow the Leader
Players will mimic what the leader is doing.  This can be with a ball or without a ball.  Feel free to use the skills that we have in our previous weeks.  Also if you can make a goal of some sort that always provides a lot of excitement for younger players when they have the ability to score goals. Let the player be the leader then so they have the opportunity to recall some of the skills we have worked on.

Week 6

  • Toe Tapshttps://youtu.be/94KuOfMKG2Q
  • Tick Tockhttps://youtu.be/dRpfwtPv5hA

  • Challenge 1: How many(toe taps, tick tocks) can you do in 20 seconds?
  • Challenge 2: Can you beat your score from the first round(can you beat your best score)?

  • Soccer Bowling
Using tall cones or water bottles set up a triangle using them much like you would with bowling pins.  To start take 5 steps from the top of the triangle and that will be the starting point.  Player passes the ball into the cones and gets a point for each cone that is knocked down.  Take 2 turns before resetting the triangle.  If it is too easy back up another 5 steps or until it is a more difficult distance.

Week 7

  • Tick Tock Stophttps://youtu.be/15y7MGYKuN8
  • Take Stop: https://youtu.be/vkFlgOi4diQ

  • Soccer Golf
Pick an object as your target and try to pass the ball and hit the target.  Count how many passes it takes you until you hit the target.  Whoever has less passes for that target gets to pick the next target.  Play 6 rounds and try to vary the distance and difficulty in passing to the target.  Think mini golf but with a soccer ball and our feet.

Week 8

  • Laces Dribbling Technique: https://youtu.be/LRW3UpQrgPQ
Using laces dribbling technique, dribble around using only your laces.

  • Challenge 1: Only use your right foot
  • Challenge 2: Only use your left foot
  • Challenge 3: How many laces touches can you get in 20 seconds?

  • Figure 8 Dribblinghttps://youtu.be/_gOORygHlLE

  • Red Light, Green Light
This is a great game that players can use with or without a soccer ball.  Feel free to add more colors to keep the game interesting. i.e.: red light-stop, green light=go, yellow light= slow, blue light= toe taps, orange light= tick tocks, purple light=knee on the ball.  You can make up anything you want, but this can be a great game to get some touches on the ball.
  • Simon Says Soccer Game
Simon Says is a great game you can use to help work on various soccer skills.  Use our skills listed above(toe taps, tick tocks, etc.) as commands for Simon Says. Feel free to be creative with this game with commands like “Simon says, pretend the ball is a telephone” or “Simon says, pretend the soccer ball is a drum”.
